11 staccato dots in FC

13 dots in FE (→EE)

11 dots in GE1

14 dots in GE2

16 dots suggested by the editors

A comparison of the presence of staccato dots under (over) the bass notes in this theme and in its repetition at the end of the Mazurka (bars 79-94) leads to the conclusion that the missing dots resulted from oversights, both in FC and FE, by the copyist or by Chopin himself. It is only in two out of 32 bars (bars 15 and 22) that the dots are absent in both sources; in all the remaining ones, at least one contains a relevant mark. Taking into account the above, in the main text we provide all bars with dots.

In FC dots are absent in bars 13, 15, 20, 22 and 23 and 89, 90, 92 and 94 (1/4 of all places). In FE they are absent in bars 9, 15, 22 and 93 (1/8 of all places). In GE1 dots were added in bars 20 and 89, but overlooked in bars 11 and 85. In GE2 the majority of the dots were added – only bars 11 and 13 were left without marks.
In EE 2 out of the FE dots were overlooked – in bars 92 and 94.
