Pedalling

b. 50

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

after 3rd beat in FC (→GE)

before 3rd beat in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the undoubtedly correct pedal marks of FE (→EE).

issues: Inaccuracies in FC

b. 52

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

No markings in FC (→GE)

 in FE (→EE)

 [] suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we include the  mark of FE (→EE) and add [] as in analogous bar 20. The missing indications in FC (→GE) most probably resulted from an oversight by the copyist.

issues: No pedal release mark , Errors of FC

b. 54-56

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

No markings in sources

Pedalling suggested by the editors

..

As in bars 22-24, in the main text we suggest supplementing the pedalling after analogous bar 62 (in the version of FE) and bar 64 (on the basis of FC, since the text of FE is different there).

b. 62

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

after 3rd beat in FC (→GE)

before 3rd beat in FE (→EE)

..

As in bar 30, in the main text we give the pedal marks of FE (→EE), since in this Mazurka Fontana did not pay enough attention to the placement of  marks.

b. 64

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

  in FC (→GE)

No markings in FE (→EE)

..

In the version of this bar corrected by Chopin in FE (→EE) – see the note above – there are no pedal markings, which implies that the last octave is to be performed without the harmonic background of the previous chord, which was most probably intended by Chopin as emphasising the resolute nature of this ending.
