  b. 23

Due to the fact that the edition is also lacking both next  (in b. 27 and 31) and similarly when the part returns (bars 105 and 109), it does not seem to be the engraver's oversight. The deletion of the indication m. v. in A at the beginning of the piece by Chopin makes one consider whether the lack of the aforementioned indications does not reflect the latest Chopin's decision concerning this issue. According to us, it is less probable, therefore, we consider the dynamic marks appearing in A (→GE) and EE as binding.

In practice, differentiating a performance considering the aforementioned indications from an interpretation which does not take them into account may be difficult, as the remaining indications (cresc. and dim.) concur in all the sources, while the particular level of dynamics related to each of the  or  indications depends on many factors in each performance and can be shaped by the pianists in a quite broad scope.
