b. 78

The beginning of the trill is recorded in the sources in many ways. The notation of A, GE and EE is the same, as far as the sound is concerned. The distinctly different version of FE is most probably an error, which is indicated by the following conditions:

- lack of the natural before the trilled aminim; the sign is unnecessary, as the note is preceded with a grace note of the same pitch;
- beginning of the trill from the lower second was usually written by Chopin with a double grace note (as he did in bar 62);
- Chopin probably intentionally differentiated the trills in bar 62 and 78 due to the different melodic shaping of the ending of the previous phrase.
Lack of the clear correction of the grace note's pitch in the pupils' copies does not have to mean that Chopin accepted the version with the ggrace note. In FES the natural before the minim is written in such a way that it may also mean modification of the grace note's pitch. In other pupils' copies, FED and FEJ, there are no annotations.
