Quaver and rest in Ap

In the version for publication – FE (→GE,EE) – Chopin left the original rhythmic value of the crotchet on the 3rd beat of the bar, not taking into account the reduction applied in Ap. Similarly in analogous bar 44, as well as in 25 and 31.

Same as in bar 2, in the previous manuscripts there is no  raising a to a, which is probably an oversight. Notwithstanding the issue of the , in this bar we have three versions of the accompaniment, out of which the first and third differ only in the rhythmic value of the bass note (which practically most probably means generally a change of the way of its prolongation – implicitly with pedal in As and hand in A). Therefore, we can speak here of Chopin's hesitation, who in AI, written between As and A, wrote a slightly different version.

Crotchets in CLI

Quavers & rests in ApFE (→GE,EE

..

In CLI the crotchets in the L.H. in bars 19 and 21-24 are undoubtedly the original version – in FEcor Chopin replaced the majority of them with quavers with rests (except for the 2nd half of bar 24). The later version (apart from the last chord in bar 22) is also included in Ap, which may suggest Chopin's hesitation.

Semiquavers & crotchets in Ap

..

In Ap the rhythmic values of subsequent two-note chords of the lower voice in the R.H. create in those bars (as well as in subsequent repetitions) an alternating short-long scheme (semiquaver-crotchet). Sometimes the resounding length contrast is additionally underlined with accents. In the main text we give the homogenous, as far as the sound is concerned, version of FE (→GE,EE). The last chords in bars 19, 21 and 23 are discussed separately due to differences in the number of sounds, and in bars 20 and 22 – due to their relation to the accents.
