No marks in A1 & EL

8 staccato dots in CJ

6 dots in CK

7 dots in CB

..

The notation of CK seems to be less reliable due to the densely packed notation. Balakirev limited himself to correcting the patent inaccuracy at the end of the run. As was the case with the slurs, the missing dots in EL are probably a result of an editorial oversight.

Semiquavers & quavers in A1, CJ & CK

Quavers in CB

Semiquavers in EL

..

In the main text we give the beams of the four runs after the concordant notation of A1 and [A2] (→CJ,CK) – semiquavers in b. 57-58 and quavers in b. 59-60. In the remaining sources the notation was arbitrarily standardised – CB features quavers only, whereas EL – semiquavers.

4 slurs over tuplets in A1, CJ, CK & EL

4 slurs to g1 in CB

..

The slurs having been led as far as to the g1 minims (in b. 60-61 to the semibreve) is an arbitrary action of CB – in the remaining sources the slurs encompass only the irregular groups in the 2nd halves of b. 57-60, often without one or more outermost notes in the manuscripts.

A1 contains only . In [A2] (→CJ,CK) Chopin marked this figure analogously to the next bars –  . The particular sources differ in the range of these marks – see the previous note.

Additional crotchet in A1

Additional semiquaver in CJ & CK

Large notehead in CB

Small notehead in EL

..

In the main text we give the first a1 note as a separate semiquaver after the notation of [A2] (→CJ,CK). The crotchet in A1 conveys rather a sonic idea, whereas the accented semiquaver in [A2] – the instructions for its implementation. The simplified versions of notation in CB and EL are arbitrary revisions.
