b. 4-5
|
composition: Op. 28 No. 12, Prelude in G♯ minor
..
In A there is a phrase mark over b. 1-4 and also another one, which, when interpreted literally, starts from the 2nd quaver in b. 5. Therefore, nothing indicates Chopin's intention to combine them, hence the interpretations of both FC and FE must be considered erroneous (besides, the copyist considered the division of the phrase mark in b. 7-8 and 8-9 to be accidental too). Moreover, we assume that the beginning of the phrase mark in b. 5 is inaccurate in A; according to our interpretation, it starts from the 1st quaver. It is justified by the fact that in a few other situations Chopin equated a phrase mark beginning between the 1st and 2nd quavers to a phrase mark running clearly from the 1st quaver, e.g. b. 1 and 9 or 29 and 31. composition: Op. 28 No. 16, Prelude in B♭ minor

In FC there is no accidental before the 2nd semiquaver in the 3rd group. The structure of the figuration and the present two notes further (as well as analog. b. 20) made the reviser of GE realize the mistake of the copyist and add a . category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Errors of FC |

A (→FE) has a cautionary before the 7th L.H. semiquaver, a1. The accidental was omitted in FC (→GE1), however, EE and GE2 have flats there in both the L.H. and R.H. parts. We also include these signs in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Errors of FC |

In FE (→GE1) the last two semiquavers in these bars were erroneously copied from the next group (the 3rd and 4th semiquaver in bar 6). The mistake was corrected in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions , Errors of FC |

The sources differ in notation of the accidentals on the 1st and 4th semiquavers of the last group. Due to the regularity of the figurations, it can be assumed that Chopin was thinking about b2-d3 and d3-f3. When the group is written without the octave sign, the text does not require any signs and this is the notation we see in FE. In the remaining sources, an octave sign was used (same as in the main text), which leads to the need of making the notation more precise:
