No sign in FE

The lack of  hairpin is most probably an oversight by the engraver of FE. The much shorter sign in EE is likely inaccurate.

In GE the short  hairpin was most probably reproduced inaccurately, since the mark clearly refers to the R.H. part and seems to command crescendo at the beginning of the chord, which lasts the entire bar. Therefore, it is either a reversed accent or – which is more likely – a  emphasising the secundal step under b. 124-125. It is the last interpretation that we suggest in the main text. A similar marking of such motifs, often misinterpreted by engravers, can be found in Chopin's pieces on a number of occasions, e.g. in the Concerto in F Minor, Op. 21, II mov., b. 84

The  hairpin under the L.H. motif in bars 125-126 is shorter than in similar situations, which must have resulted from the transition to a new page. In the main text we give a longer mark modelled after the previous bars; such a version is included also in GE. In the remaining editions the hairpin was shortened with respect to the notation of A, which could not have been intended by Chopin.

The lack of the  hairpin in the majority of GE is probably a result of an oversight of the engraver of FE, which was then corrected in the very FE (→EE). The sign was added in GE2no2 too. We reproduce the range of the sign on the basis of the notation of A. Cf. bars 3-4.

As in the next bar, in A the change of direction of the   hairpins occurs just before the three quarters of the bar. In GE and the remaining editions, this moment occurs in the middle of the bar, contrary to the natural dynamics related to the direction of the figuration movement.
