Issues : Errors of A

b. 3

composition: Op. 28 No. 12, Prelude in G♯ minor

..

In A (→FE,FCGE) there is no  restoring g1 on the 3rd crotchet in the bottom R.H. voice. The mistake was noticed only in EE.

b. 4

composition: Op. 43, Tarantella

GE2 (→GE3GE4)

AFC3 (→FEIE), EEGE1

..

In AFC3 (FEIE), EE and GE1 there is no extending dot on minim c1 on the first beat of RH but the dot apears upon the theme’s repetition in corresponding b. 180, which allows us to assume with great probability that b.4 is inaccurate. The relevant revision was already made in GE2 (GE3GE4).

b. 4-12

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

..

In A d in bars 4 and 12 is a dotted minim. The mistake, corrected in FE (→GE,EE), probably stems from the original notation of the Etude in two-time longer rhythmic values. What is interesting is the fact that in bar 52 Chopin noticed and corrected this mistake while still writing A.

b. 4

composition: Op. 10 No 7, Etude in C major

..

Before the 7th semiquaver in A there is no  returning e1. However, there is a  before e1 on the 9th semiquaver, which would be unjustified, if the 7th and 8th semiquavers were meant to be e1. Therefore, an oversight of the  is beyond any doubt and it was confirmed by an accidental added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). Analogous bar 37 is written correctly already in A. Cf. bar 12.

b. 4

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

a1 in A (→FCGE1), literal reading

a1 in FE (→EE) & GE2 (→GE3)

..

When interpreted literally, the version of A (→FCGE1), in which the 4th demisemiquaver on the last beat of the bar is an a1, is most probably a mistake, although the interval structure of the four middle demisemiquavers (from the 3rd to the 6th in the eight-note figure) is strictly analogous to the seven preceding figures. It is indicated by a broader tonal context of this phrase and of the entire Prelude – the second of those four notes is never altered, while the key to which Chopin returns in the 2nd half of that bar is F minor, and not F major. A natural was added – most probably by Fontana – in FE (→EE); an identical addition was also introduced in GE2.
