b. 2

composition: Op. 28 No. 10, Prelude in C♯ minor

..

In FE1 the 4th and 5th semiquavers of the bar are b1-a1. It must be a mistake – it is likely that the engraver was influenced by the structure of the previous and the next two figures. The error was rectified in FE2; it is also all the remaining sources that include the correct version, analogous to b. 6 and 14.

b. 3

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

No staccato dots in A & in repetition FE (→GE1)

Staccato dots in FE (1st time) & EE,GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) (1st & 2nd time)

..

The staccato dots for the 2nd chord are rather non-authentic. They were most probably added by the revisers, perhaps as a result of misinterpretation of A – one can see a minor fleck of ink between the beam and note head of the lowest note in the R.H. Moreover, the signs were added inconsistently: FE (→GE1) includes dots only the first time (in GE1 only over the R.H.), yet they are absent in the repetition. The revisers of EE and GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) added dots in both situations.

b. 3

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In FE1 there is no top note of the chord, d1. The mistake was corrected in FE2; all the remaining sources also include the correct text.

b. 3-4

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

As was the case in the R.H. part, in A Chopin omits accidentals next to the quavers ending the four-note L.H. figures if they fall an octave lower than one of the preceding semiquavers. In the discussed bars, such a notation was repeated without changes in FC and FE1. Both necessary naturals – before g in b. 3 and f in b. 4 – were added in EE and GE2, whereas in the remaining editions only one natural was added, in GE1 in b. 3, while in FE2 in b. 4.

b. 4

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

FE (except for FE4) lacks in five necessary accidentals – naturals before d2 and b and sharps before ff2 and g2. This patent inaccuracy certainly has its source in the notation of [A]. Similarly in GC, in which, however, Chopin added a  raising b to b. In GC (→GE) there are also no naturals before the last octave in the R.H. – it can be an oversight of the copyist or a later addition in [A]. In the remaining sources the signs were completed (all additions can be attributed to a revision): three were added in EE1 and FE4, four in GE; only EE2 includes the correct notation. Cf. bar 24.
