Issues : Accidentals in different octaves
b. 3
|
composition: Op. 2, Variation IV, primitive version
..
The version of the 2nd half of the bar added in AsI seems to be the first version of the final text, hence we regard it as a variant of the latter. However, as upon the return of this bar (bar 19) AsI has only one version, identical to the final one, all three versions can be actually treated interchangeably. The AsI notation is inaccurate in terms of accidentals – in the principal version the category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Accidentals in different octaves , Cautionary accidentals , Accompaniment changes |

In the 2nd four-bar section Chopin wrote the accidentals less carefully. In A (→FE) there are no naturals before b2 in bar 5 and d3 in bars 7-8. These patent oversights were corrected in GE and EE (in EE3 the category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Errors of A |

b. 5-13
|
composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor
..
In this Prelude Chopin generally did not use accidentals before the top notes in broken octaves – see b. 1-4. In the discussed bars, the problem concerns the following cases:
Such a notation is in A (→FC,FE), whereas EE1, EE2, GE1 and GE2 added the majority of the necessary accidentals (17, 20, 21 and 22 out of the necessary 23, respectively). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in GE , Errors repeated in FE , Errors repeated in EE |
