Issues : No pedal release mark
b. 299-300
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
The missing sign in A (→GE) can be Chopin's oversight; however, it is not entirely clear where it is to be added. The pedal is certainly to be held at least for a half of the bar, yet probably much longer. The signs suggested by us determine a section in which a pedal's release sounds most naturally (it is best to do it gradually as the so-called diminuendo pedal). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Errors in FE , No pedal release mark |

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

Single marks appear in Chopin's pieces quite rarely and – apart from the pieces' endings – most often result from oversights of marks supposed to complete them. According to us, this is also the case here – starting from the mark at the beginning of this bar, there are no more pedal marks in A until the end of the line of text (in bar 311), which points to momentary distraction. Due to the above, in the main text we suggest adding a , in accordance with the harmonic sense. Such a mark was also added in EE, almost in the same place. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , No pedal release mark , Inaccuracies in A |

b. 329

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III
..
The sign may be a mistake of the engraver of FE (→EE). However, Chopin's proofreading cannot be entirely excluded: it may be that the composer wanted to prevent the next fragment from being performed without pedal or, which is more likely, he was thinking about a short pedal encompassing the octave leap of the top voice in the R.H. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Authentic corrections of FE , No pedal release mark |

b. 335-336
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
The sign in FE (→EE) was certainly added by Chopin – cf. analogous bar 179. In that case the composer also did not mark the place of the pedal's release. In the main text we suggest an addition, compliant with the revision introduced in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE , No pedal release mark |

The missing mark must be considered an inaccuracy, hence, after EE and GE3, we add it in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , No pedal release mark |
