b. 26

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

g3 in AsI, A & FE1

f3 in GE (→EE,FESB)

..

In GE1 this note was being corrected during the printing process, which is evidenced by the visible – particularly in GE2 – traces of removal of the notehead of g3. Nevertheless, it is uncertain whether the correction was ordered by Chopin – it could have been performed by the reviser – he could have considered the notation of A a mistake. It is also likely that the initially printed g3 was devoid of a ledger line (such mistakes were quite frequent), and the reviser, without consulting the basis, considered the notehead to have been placed too high. Therefore, the authenticity of the version featuring f3 is uncertain; moreover, the fact that g3 was reintroduced into FE1 – undoubtedly by Chopin – proves that the composer eventually opted for g3, even if he were temporarily considering f3.

b. 27-28

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

Semiquavers in CLI & FE (→GE,EE

Crotchets in Ap

..

The crotchets in the lower voice in the R.H., in Ap on the last beats of these bars, are in strong articulation contrast with the remaining semiquaver two-note chords, which is additionally underlined with the accents. In the main text we give the homogenous, as far as the sound is concerned, version of FE (→GE,EE).

b. 27-28

composition: Op. 64 No 2, Waltz in C♯ minor

c2 repeated in As & A (→FEEE,GE1no2,GE1opGE2opGE3op)

c2 tied in AI, FED & GE2no2

..

The sources illustrate here Chopin's hesitation – cis repeated in As and A (→FEEE,GE; except for GE2no2), yet it is sustained in AI and FED. In the main text, we give the version of the base source, i.e. A, particularly considering the fact that in the autograph Chopin most probably deleted the tie sustaining this note. Cf. also bars 29-30.

b. 28

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

d1 in chord in AI & GE

No d1 in AF (→FEEE)

..

The missing d1 minim in AF could be considered Chopin's hesitation: in AI it seems that the note was added to the g1-b1 third. It is also included in GE, based on [AG], which may be later. However, in analogous b. 120 a respective note is present in all sources, which may point towards the composer's oversight in the discussed place.
