It is uncertain whether the two triplet slurs, added probably at the stage of proofreading of FE (→EE), were supposed to have any other meaning according to the person who was entering them (perhaps Chopin), e.g. motivic or concerning articulation. We do not include them in the main text and thus keep the notation of the corresponding bars (b. 50 and 283) in the first and final sections of the Polonaise coherent, as intended by the composer.

Like in b. 58-59, in FE1 there is not a single  raising g to g (in various octaves). The mistake was corrected in FE2 and EE.

The sources include a cautionary  before d1 at the beginning of the bar. In FE (→EE) and GE2 a respective sign was added also next to d in the L.H. We do not include these signs in the main text, since it is d that has been exclusively present for more than 20 bars and not d. Cf. bar 298.

In GE and FE1 there is no accidental to the bottom note of the L.H. chord on the 3rd beat of the bar (d). FE2 and EE added a , which we include in the main text. This and other additions were also introduced in b. 296-297.

In GE and FE1 there are no accidentals to the d notes (in various octaves) on the 3rd beat of both bars. The remaining editions added the following naturals:

  • FE2 to the bottom note of the L.H. chord in b. 296 (d) and to d2 in both bars;
  • EE1 to d and d2 in b. 296;
  • EE2 also to d1 and d2 in b. 297.

In the main text we include only the L.H. accidentals.
