GE1 is based on the lost Fontana’s copy [FC1]. It contains a significant amount of errors and inaccuracies, we can find in it, among others, the majority of notation faults in A. The most common errors are:
- omission of some notes, e.g. in bars 27 and 268;
- wrong notes, e.g. in bars 42 and 149, and also in b. 164;
- omission of accidentals, e.g. in bars 15and 242;
- lack of extending dots, e.g. in bars 119 and 210;
- other omissions, e.g. accent in b. 176, tie in b. 84.
Most faults which are not repeated after A, we consider errors found only in GE1, even though some of them may have been made by Fontana in [FC1]. We ascribe a mistake to a copier only when due to the circumstances mistakes made while copying A are more probable than those of an engraver, e.g. in bars 34 and 50.
The text of GE1 is correct only in few places, despite the error in A (e.g. in b. 176). Given the loss of [FC1], it is difficult to determine whether corrections were made in the copy or edition, and scarcity of the reference does not allow for determining their author.
Numerous penciled in annotations in the presented copy do not have the source value.
