Seventh in FE

Octave in GE & EE

..

In the main text, we give the unquestionable, as far as the sources and music are concerned, version of FE. The octave in GE and EE may be either a mistake or a revision; at the same time, in each of these editions, the reason could have been different. In each case, the fact that the revisers did not take into account the analogy with the two previous bars is puzzling.

  between staves, our alternative suggestion

..

The missing  hairpin is probably an oversight of the engraver of GE, although one cannot exclude the possibility that the mark was added in the last proofreading of FE.
Just like in the case of crescendo in bar 323, one can assume that the fact that both   marks were placed under the L.H. part resulted from lack of space in [A], since in this case, the hairpin emphasises the topmost point of the sequence, which would be much more legible if it were placed next to the moving part of the figuration, hence between the top notes of the L.H. and the R.H. part. This is how the  hairpin in bar 328 was interpreted in GE3. We suggest this solution, including both marks, as a variant.

b. 328

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In the main text, we add a cautionary  before the 8th semiquaver, b1. The mark was added both in GE and EE; in both editions, a  lowering this note to bwas initially added. In EE, this routine revision, unsuitable in this context, was detected still before EE1 had been published (probably thanks to Fontana), whereas in GE, the mistake was corrected only just in GE2 (→GE3).

Third c1-e1 in FE (→EE)

No third in GE

..

The missing c1-ethird, ending the phrase of the orchestral part, is most probably a mistake of the engraver of GE. It could also indicate that it was added in the last proofreading of FE, yet the engraver's mistake is supported by the placement of the Solo indication in GE, i.e. only just over the 2nd beat of the bar, probably due to this third, which does not belong to the solo part.
