b. 18

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

 c2 in CLIFE (→GE,EE

No  c2 in Ap

..

In the sources one or both naturals before the a1-cthird were omitted. Lack of the  before a1 (in all sources) is a patent error. What is interesting is the fact that the defect was not corrected in GE and EE4 despite adding a cautionary  before a2. In turn, lack of the  returning cin Ap, although most probably incidental, leads to a version with c2, which, from the harmonic point of view, is not impossible.

b. 19

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

g-b-c1 in CLI

C-c & c-g-c1 in Ap & FE (→GE1GE1a, →EE2EE3)

GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) & EE4

The original version of the L.H. part in the 1st half of bar 19 was discarded by Chopin both in Ap and in the base text for FE (→GE,EE). We add cautionary naturals on the 2nd beat of the bar (also in bar 20); an identical addition was performed in later GE and EE4.

b. 19-23

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

Semiquaver thirds in CLI

Crotchet thirds in Ap

Single semiquavers in FE (→GE,EE

..

On the 4th beat of bars 19, 21 and 23 CLI and Ap have thirds in the lower voice of the R.H. Chopin resigned from the lower notes of these thirds already in the base text for FE. Independently from the number of sounds, there are also differences in rhythmic values: Ap has crotchets here – according to the general scheme in bars 19-24.

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

In none of the authentic sources the notation of the accidentals in the part of the R.H. is entirely correct in these bars – particularly in bar 19. However, the inaccuracies do not pose problems in establishing the correct text. Moreover, in all sources except for Ap the unnecessary  before f2, the 14th semiquaver in bar 20, is repeated.

in EE

in EE is most probably the engraver's mistake, yet lack of correction even in EE4 indicates a possible revision (by Fontana?).
