Verbal indications
b. 115
|
composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major
..
A (→GE) and FE have the indication sotto voce. In A one can see that Chopin corrected the original indication – . Taking this into consideration, different indications in EE – legatissimo – are almost certainly authentic and come from the lost manuscript base text (it also applies to the remaining indications in bars 117, 119, 122). In A we also have a few other deleted and corrected performance indications. Cf. also the beginning of the Mazurka Op. 24, No. 2. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Corrections in A , Deletions in A |

Lack of the indication in EE probably stems from the different dynamic concept of the ending, which starts with legatissimo in bar 115. category imprint: Differences between sources |

GE and FE are lacking the indication sotto voce – it must be an oversight. The indication in EE is probably authentic and comes from the earlier autograph – the base text of EE. category imprint: Differences between sources |

b. 122-124
|
composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major
..
In A the dashes determining the range of calando reach the middle of bar 125. In GE the indication ends slightly earlier, including bar 124. EE presents another version, in which calando was replaced with the indication smorz. (=smorzando), written only at the end of bar 124. It is very likely that the indication is authentic and comes from the lost base text to EE. In FE the indication in this place was not considered at all. category imprint: Differences between sources |
