Slurs

b. 42-43

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

In GE2 the slur was divided between bars 42-43, contrary to the unambiguous notation of A and the remaining editions. There are visible actions taken to perform this correction in print, which may be surprising, as the edition did not use the printing material of GE1 and the changes could be introduced in the base text, before printing. Perhaps there is still an earlier impression of GE2.

b. 44-45

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

The slurs in A at the transition to the new great stave are ambiguously annotated. There is a possibility of interpreting them as two separate slurs or one slur. All editions have one long slur.

b. 45

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

The slur on small notes in A is also included in GE. The lack of sign in FE and EE may result from the notation of the base text or it is possibly an oversight of the engraver.

b. 45-46

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

We give the slur of A (→GE). The slur in FE was led inaccurately – it ends on the 1st chord in bar 46. In EE there is no slur. In comparison with the complete and logic notation of A (slurs in the L.H. are compatible with the phrasing in the R.H.), the slurring in FE and EE in bars 45-50 displays numerous lacks and errors.

b. 46-48

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

The beginning of the slur in EE is unclear. It is probably a result of the imprecise notation of the manuscript (lost), on the basis of which EE was prepared. We consider the interpretation according to the remaining sources as the much more probable one.
