The visible in A (→FE) and EE little slur in the 2nd half of the bar was overlooked in FC (→GE). Instead of that, Chopin added in this copy a longer slur, embracing the entire bar. The slur was introduced also in EE3, thanks to which the edition, as the only source, presents the closest to Chopin's intention version of the rhythm and slurring in this bar. In the main text, we omit the shorter slur, as, according to us, Chopin replaced it with the added longer one. Moreover, the notation of A is ambiguous – it is not clear which components of the chords were supposed to be embraced with it – we assume that they were b1 and a1.

Pedalling in FE (→EE)

The absence of pedalling in FC (→GE) could be caused by the same issue as the absence of the R.H. slur – distraction at the end of a page. Another possibility could be an oversight by Chopin, who was adding pedalling to FC – starting from bar 29, which opens a new page in FC, the pedal markings are written in Chopin's hand (to bar 39).

Chopin added the   hairpins in FC, as was the case with the majority of the remaining dynamic marks in this Mazurka. GE partially adjusted the range of the marks to full bars, which in this case was justified to a certain extent, due to the transition to a new page starting from bar 29.

The missing g in the 2nd L.H. crotchet most probably resulted from an oversight or unclear notation in [A] – the note was almost certainly added in FC, which is indicated by the stem of this chord, which is too short. There are no reasons to differentiate between bars 21 and 29. There is a similar situation in bar 61.

In spite of the clearly divided slurs of A (→FC), both FE and GE1 embrace these three bars with one slur. The later beginning of the slur in bar 31 in EE is the original version, not corrected by Chopin in the base text to this edition (the extension of the slur is visible in A and most probably in FC).
