Chopin would often differentiate the rhythmic values of a chord written on one stem. However, in this case one could have doubts whether the missing dot to c1 in A (→GE1→GE2,FESB) did not result from distraction. A possible earlier release of this key does not affect the sound, since the pedal pressed at the beginning of the bar is still to be held. Another issue could be the e1 crotchet: making it easier to play it or indicating that the e1 note falls already after two and not three crotchets. None of the above reasons seems plausible enough, hence in the main text we add a respective dot. In the other editions, the notation of this chord contains mistakes or revisions:

In the main text we explain the Chopinesque prestiss. abbreviation, since Chopin probably wanted to fit it between the staves (it can be seen that he started reducing the letter size while writing). Actually, such a solution was already introduced by GE (→FE,EE,FESB). category imprint: Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |

In the entire passage, in A there is only one lowering g to g – to the 7th demisemiquaver (g3). In the editions, the remaining necessary flats were added, taking into consideration the convention allowing for the omission of a to g2. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions |

In A the last demisemiquaver is an F1 note, as a result of which, when interpreted literally, the minim ending the passage is also an F1 note. Chopin's patent mistake was corrected in GE (→FE,EE). Such a blatant error could have been corrected by the reviser, which, in this case, does not diminish the value of the correction. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Errors in the number of ledger lines , Errors of A , Authentic corrections of GE |
