Fingering
b. 1-2
|
composition: Op. 28 No. 3, Prelude in G major
..
In the main text we include the fingering entered by Chopin into FES, confirmed by an equivalent entry in FED, also Chopinesque. The much more abundant fingering of EE must be inauthentic; in addition, despite its initial compliance with the Chopinesque additions, it is almost certainly different from the one envisioned by the composer (unjustified use of the fingers 4-2 a sixth apart at the end of the 1st half of b. 1). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Annotations in FED , Annotations in FES |

b. 7-9
|
composition: Op. 28 No. 3, Prelude in G major
..
Nothing indicates that the fingering of EE could be authentic. What is more, a mistake was most probably committed in b. 8 – in the middle of the bar, the b-a notes should be, apparently, played with the fingers 2-1, as they were in the previous bar, in an analogous place. In the copied fingering, it is, however, impossible to reach d at the beginning of the 4th group without crossing the fingers, which should have been marked. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in EE |

b. 24-25
|
composition: Op. 28 No. 3, Prelude in G major
..
The inauthentic fingering of EE most probably contains a mistake in b. 25 – it should be the 1st and not the 2nd finger on the 3rd semiquaver. The mistake was probably caused by transposing the "continental" notation (12345) to the English one (+1234). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |

In the main text we give a fingering written most probably by Chopin himself in FED. The fingering of EE starting from the 2nd beat of the bar could be combined with the Chopinesque entry; however, both Chopin and the reviser of EE had most probably a different fingering in mind: category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Annotations in FED |
