In A and FC3 the transition of bars 19-20 corresponds with the the transition of systems. In A the slur beginning on the last quaver in b. 7 extends beyond the end of the system, putting in question its actual ending, similarly in FC3.
With most probability this is why it is difficult to determine the actual ending of the slur in all first editions. In FE and IE the end of b. 19 also correspnds with the end of the system and here the slur ends on the last note of b. 19. In EE and GE bars 19-20 are in the middle of the system and here the slur was extended until the first note of b. 20. In GE the slur begins as late as on the second beat of the bar. This is an inaccuracy, which results most probably from unclear notation of slurs in the Fontana copy serving as the basis for this edition (in FC3 b. 20 is the first bar of the system, it is posssible [KF1] had a similar structure). In the main text we adopt notation of A as it raises no doubts.

In all sources the slur over the phrase in bars 20-27 is divided at the bar line of bars 23-24 on the tied c1-e1 chord. Here we write down one slur as in the corresponding part in bars 199-200. category imprint: Interpretations within context |

The slur beginning on the second beat of b. 28 in GE1 (→GE2→GE3) is most certainly inaccurate. It may have resulted from unclear marking of slurs in [FC1] which was the basis for these edtitions (e.g. when b. 27 was the last bar in the last but one line of text).
