Issues : Errors of A

b. 88

Fourth & triad in AI & GE

Sixths in AF (→FEEE)

Fourth & sixth, our alternative suggestion

..

The d1 note on the 2nd beat of the bar seems to be Chopin's mistake in AF, since all analogous places feature b, which does not hamper the performance of the R.H. part (in AI Chopin would cross out even the d1 notes in b. 48 and 54). In turn, the sixth on the 3rd beat of the bar may be intentional – cf. b. 56, in which there is a sixth in a similar context, before the change of the bass note to G. Due to the above reason, we suggest a variant version with b in brackets as an alternative.

G without slur in AF

Rest in GE

G with slur in FE (→EE)

..

It is difficult to say which version of the 1st beat of the bar is later and whether Chopin considered any of them to be final. According to us, when the G bass note is played, it distorts the rhythmic scheme of this phrase, in which the accented quaver triplet, which is the local climax, is exposed against the L.H. rest. Chopin could have inserted this crotchet to compensate its absence in the previous bar – cf. b. 9 and 101 – later, however, in [AG] (→GE) he considered keeping the phrase's rhythm to be more important.
A similar issue can also be found in b. 139.

In FE (→EE) this G note is the starting point of a slur, which is a mistake. Moreover, the bass clef was not reintroduced here in AF (→FEEE), which is Chopin's patent mistake.

Slur in bar 137 in AF

Slur to bar 137 in GE

The slur of AF is almost certainly Chopin's mistake, which is indicated by a comparison with all analogous figures – b. 10-11, 12-13, 102-103, 104-105 and 134-135. The version of FE (→EE) is most probably a result of an inaccurate interpretation of the slur of AF, written with a flourish (like in b. 134-135).

Both autographs are lacking in the  restoring e on the 3rd beat of the bar, which is a patent oversight. The accidental was added in FE (→EE), which could have been performed by the reviser. It is also present in GE, and the layout of the accidentals before this dyad in GE1 also points to the fact that the sign was added in print (cf. the correct layout in GE2).
