b. 83

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

No repeat in A1 & EE

Repeat in FE & GE

..

The repeat sign of the section that comes to an end here is an addition introduced by Chopin in the last stage of proofreading of FE as well as in GE or – which seems more likely – still in [A2]

b. 84-103

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

2 slurs in A1 & GE

Continuous slur in FE

Slur in bar 103 in EE

..

The version of EE, featuring a slur in b. 103 only, most probably corresponds to the notation of the proof copy of FE, in which the engraver overlooked the slurs over the non-written-out fragment in A1 (b. 84-102). In turn, the continuous slur over all that section present in the finished FE results from proofreading, most probably Chopinesque. In the main text we give two slurs: in b. 84-87 and 87-103, featured both in A1 (interpreted correctly) and GE, since the version of FE, although the latest, was not a change of the thought-out phrasing of A1 and [A2], but an ad hoc correction of a serious mistake.
