composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

..

Like in b. 15 and 39, the cautionary  before g1 was added in the proofreading of FE. However, the sign is absent in EE, which probably means that it was added in the last phase of proofreading.

G in FE2

..

The version of FE2 must be the latest authentic one and should be placed in the main text as such. However, the fact that the version had a very limited number of recipients is an argument against it: FE2 was released in a commemorative album, offered exclusively to the subscribers of the weekly Revue et Gazette Musicale de Paris. Therefore, this situation can be compared to the variations entered by Chopin into teaching copies, which we generally consider to be variant.

The cautionary naturals before g and g1 were added – perhaps by Chopin – in the proofreading of FE1 (→EE).
