b. 76

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

At the beginning of the bar FE1 features an e1 (with a ) in the top voice. The patent mistake was corrected both in FE2 and EE. A pencilled correction is present also in FED. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED , FE revisions |

b. 79

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major
..
In the main text we give the slurs of A1 (→FE), which show the inner structure of b. 77-80 while suggesting that the continuity of the phrasing should be preserved. The separation of the slurs on the rest is a revision of EE, which is actually sensible; however, it does not correspond to the notation of A1, since it is rather the ending of the previous slur that could be considered inaccurate therein. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |

b. 82

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

It is difficult to determine Chopin's final intention here. The authenticity of both versions is likely yet not absolutely certain: Chopin could have committed a mistake while writing a before b1 in A1, while the in GE1, inserted in print instead of a , could have been a result of Chopin's proofreading but also of the reviser's work, as EE show. In the main text we adopt the musically most natural version of the principal source (GE1); in turn, we consider the version of A1 (→FE) to be an equal variant. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE |

b. 82-83
|
composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major
..
The slur of A1 ending on the c1-c2 octave is almost certainly an inaccuracy (perhaps due to ink stoppage?); repeated in FE. In GE the slur encompasses the entire four-bar section (b. 81-84). In the main text we give the contextual interpretation of the version of A1, which was also introduced in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccurate slurs in A |

The mark of A1, with arms of different length, may be interpreted as a reversed long accent or a short hairpin, which would correspond to the version of GE. According to us, the former is more likely; however, in the main text we adopt a non-reversed long accent, which may be a result of Chopinesque proofreading of FE and which is compliant with the unquestionable marking in analogous b. 76. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions , Sign reversal , Authentic corrections of FE |
