Issues : Cautionary accidentals
b. 306
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
In A the before the middle note of the L.H. chord is placed clearly too low, which in this case could have been due to the intention of avoiding collision with the bar line. Fontana correctly interpreted the meaning of that mark in FC (→GE); however, in FE the sharp was initially ascribed to the bottom note of the chord, g. That erroneous version got to EE1 and was then corrected through the addition of a proper both in the last phase of proofreading of FE and in EE2 (→EE3). category imprint: Differences between sources; Source & stylistic information issues: EE revisions , Errors in EE , Cautionary accidentals , FE revisions , Accidental below/above the note |

b. 360
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
A (→FC→GE1, →FE→EE1) has a reminding before g1. The mark, unnecessary in this context, was removed in GE2 (→GE3) and EE2 (→EE3). The same applies to b. 462. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |

b. 462
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
Just like in b. 360, A (→FC→GE1, →FE→EE1) features a reminding before g1. The mark, superfluous in this context, was removed in GE2 (→GE3) and EE2 (→EE3). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |

b. 470
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
Just like in b. 360 and 462, A (→FC,FE→EE) features a cautionary before g. The superfluous mark was removed in GE. In this context it is also the before d, present in all sources, that is unjustified, hence we omit it in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |

b. 490-491
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
In A one can see in these bars 4 minor crossings-out. All concern cautionary accidentals that Chopin, after a moment of reflection, considered superfluous. The accidentals in the L.H. part – before c in b. 490 and before B in b. 491 – warn us not to play notes peculiar to the G minor key, which is going to be confirmed only just in the next bar. category imprint: Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information issues: Cautionary accidentals , Deletions in A |
