Issues : Authentic corrections of FE
b. 531-536
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
In b. 531 and 535 in the main text we give the unequivocal whole-bar slurs of A (→FC→GE). However, the longer slurs of FE (→EE) are probably a result of Chopin's proofreading: there is no visible reason for which the engraver would have complicated his work with asymmetrical slurs. Therefore, they can be considered an equivalent variant. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
In A (→FC) there are no naturals before the crotchets ending the five-note groups (a2, a1 and a). Through a proof copy of FE, this mistake also found its way to EE1 (in FE the accidentals were added in the last phase of proofreading). The naturals are also present in GE and EE2 (→EE3). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE , Inaccuracies in FC , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in FE , Errors repeated in EE |

b. 544

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

There is no doubt that it was Chopin that added the indication sempre in FE. To the main text we adopt a slightly differently formulated indication added by Chopin in FC (sempre con fuoco), hence we give the indication added in FE, although the latest, in the form of a variant addition. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

In EE1 the bottom note of the L.H. crotchet is an erroneous A1. The mistake was initially also in FE, in which, however, it was corrected during the proofreading, perhaps by Chopin's orders. The mistake was also rectified in EE2 (→EE3). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE , Errors repeated in EE |
