In the main text we give the cresc. - - - indication added by Chopin in FC. The omitted dashes in GE1 are an inaccuracy, quite frequently encountered in Chopinesque first editions; the marks were added in GE2 (→GE3).
In the entire section (b. 197-249) Chopin added numerous performance markings to the copy, mostly dynamic ones. They are similar to those he wrote for the first time (b. 65-117), yet not identical, which we preserve, just like other minor melodic and rhythmic differences. In GE2 (→GE3) the revisers tried to unify them in many places, e.g. by adding a in b. 203 and moving cresc. to b. 204 or by adding
marks in b. 235-238. There is a similar situation in b. 648-695, which were briefly marked in the manuscripts as repetition of b. 197-244.
