Long accents in FE (→EE)

3 short accents in GE3

..

In the majority of the editions, the three markings are long accents or short diminuendoes. Admittedly, it is difficult to differentiate between them in this context; therefore, the classification adopted by us cannot be considered conclusive. In the main text, we tend to the interpretation applied in GE3, considering the notation of analogous bar 504 to be more accurate.

No markings in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

3 accents in GE3

4 markings suggested by the editors

..

The missing dynamic markings seem to be an oversight of Chopin – cf. analogous bar 505. In the main text, we suggest four markings modelled after those we adopted in that bar. The three accents in GE3 were most probably added after bar 508.

2 slurs in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

1 slur in GE3

..

The revision of GE3, unifying the slurring of bars 512-513 and 514-515, seems to be superfluous – the first time, the slurs articulate the rhythmic division of the passage's descending part, resulting from its very structure; the second time – they emphasise the unity of the entire virtuoso figure.

E tied in FE (→EE) & GE3

E repeated in GE1 (→GE2)

..

The missing tie of E is probably an oversight of the engraver of GE1 (→GE2), corrected in GE3.
