Slurs in analogous bars (bar 18, 22, 26, 53, 93, 273 and 281) begin in FE (→EE,GE1→GE2) from the 1st or 2nd semiquaver. However, it does not seem likely that the differences in notation could suggest differences in performance intended by the composer; they rather result from an inaccurate notation or interpretation of [A]. Therefore, we consider it appropriate to unify those slurs, basing the choice of one version on the following considerations:
- The first four appearances of the phrases containing those motifs (bars 16-30) were marked by Chopin more accurately than the following ones – they contain more marks and bear traces of corrections and additions in print (cf. notes to bar 17 and 18-19). Among three analogous motifs (we do not take into account the slur in bar 18, almost certainly inaccurate), two begin from the 1st semiquaver (bar 22 and 26) and only one from the second (bar 30).
- the marks in bars 17-18, 21-22, 25-26 and 29-30, each time encompassing the syncopated crotchet and the semiquavers resulting from it, supports the thesis that the semiquavers should be considered a direct continuation of the tied g2 crotchet.
Taking into account the above, in the main text we give here a slur running from g2. An identical change was introduced in GE3.
