Issues : No pedal release mark

b. 76-77

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

No  sign in FE (→GE,EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

The pedalling of FE seems to be incomplete – there is no musical justification for omitting the  marking in bar 76; this bar ends the line, which promotes oversights. However, it cannot be ruled out that it is the  marking in bar 77 that was written or left by mistake. Uncertain as to what Chopin's intention was, in the main text we leave the consideration of a pedal change in this place to the discretion of the performer.

Like in analogous bars 50-52, the pedal release moment from bar 99 we suggest (compliant with the indication introduced in GE3) allows for maintaining the dying sound of the broadly broken G major chord until the end of the phrase. In this case, one can also, according to us, imagine an even longer pedal hold, e.g. to the end of the 3rd beat of bar 101 or even to the end of bar 103.

b. 114-115

The missing  mark in bar 114 may be a mistake, since it is the last bar on a page in FE, which favours such inaccuracies. On the other hand, from the harmonic point of view, change of pedal is superfluous in this place, hence it cannot be excluded that it is the  mark at the beginning of bar 115 that was unnecessarily added. In the main text, we leave this issue to the performer's discretion.
