Pedalling

b. 211-212

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No sign in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Chopin did not specify the moment of pedal release; he probably meant its gradual release, the so-called diminuendo pedal. Such notation is to be found on a number of occasions in his works, cf. e.g. the Etude in D major, op. 25, no. 8, bar 27 or the Concerto in F minor, op. 21, the 1st mov., bars 299-300. In the main text, we suggest a mark more or less in the place where mixing subsequent chords dominates the echo of the bass B1-B octave.

b. 236

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

No pedalling in GE3

The missing  mark in this place is to be considered an inaccuracy – in the main text, we add the mark in accordance with analogous bar 587. A  mark is placed in FE (→GE1GE2) under the last quaver in bar 235, which results from lack of space under the low-placed bass note. In EE, the mark was placed in bar 236 over the L.H. part, whereas in GE3, the pedalling was overlooked.

b. 249

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No sign in FE (→GE1GE2)

The missing  mark in FE (→GE1GE2) must be a mistake, one of a few in this fragment. It was added in the remaining editions.

b. 252

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In FE (→GE1GE2), there is only a  mark in this bar. It may be a trace of a more serious mistake, encompassing half of the line (4 bars) – the mark is missing in bar 249, opening the line. However, taking into account the unquestionable pedalling indications in the subsequent bars, we assume that it was simply a  mark that was overlooked at the beginning of the bar in the discussed place. A corresponding mark was added already in EE and GE3.

b. 283-284

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No markings in FE (→GE)

 in bar 284 in EE

In the main text, we add pedalling markings on the basis of comparison with analogous bars 299-300. In bar 284, the addition was performed already in EE.
