Fingering

b. 432

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No fingering in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Fingering in GE3

..

The fingering added in GE3 cannot come from Chopin, although its compliance with the Chopinesque fingering cannot be excluded.

Fontana's fingering in EE

Fingering written into FEH

..

One of the fingerings given by Fontana may correspond to the Chopinesque fingering; however, it is highly unlikely that those indications could come from Chopin. The authenticity of the entries performed by a foreign hand in FEH is also questionable.

Fingering written into FEFo

Fontana's fingering in EE

..

The concerted fingering of FEH and EE most probably corresponds to the Chopinesque one, which is confirmed by the entry in FED. See also the note to bar 410. In comparison, the differing fingering of FEFo stands out, written actually rather by the pupil than by Chopin. It does not exclude its possible authenticity, yet in the main text we take into account the remaining entries – FED and the three digits of FEH that may have been written by Chopin.

Fontana's fingering in EE

Fingering written into FEH

..

In spite of compliance of the fingering for the 1st third of the phrase, Fontana's indications in EE probably do not strictly correspond to the fingering intended by the person using FEH – it is proved by the differences in analogous bars 412-413. The authenticity of fingering is questionable in both sources.
