e1-g1 third in FE (→GE,EE)

Chord suggested by the editors

The missing b on the 3rd semiquaver on the 2nd beat of the bar is probably an oversight of the engraver. It is indicated by:

  • the use of triads in all three pianistically analogous situations – on the 2nd and 4th beats of bar 31 and on the 4th beat of bar 33;
  • an important factor favouring a mistake – the note, if it was present in [A], was most probably written on the bottom stave, hence separated from the e1-gthird. Such situations would sometimes cause a note being overlooked while reproducing the manuscript – cf. e.g. the Sonata in B Minor, Op. 35, 1st mov., bar 3.

Due to this reason, we suggest adding that note in the main text.

 lowering c3 to c3 was overlooked on the 2nd quaver of the bar in FE (→GE,EE).

f3 in FE (→GE,EE)

g3 in FEJ

..

The f3 note, present in FE (→GE,EE) as the 6th semiquaver of the bar, interferes with the regularity of the figuration and is most probably erroneous. It is confirmed by a most probably Chopinesque correction in FEJ.

No pedalling in FE (→GE,EE)

Pedalling suggested by the editors

..

We add pedalling, overlooked probably by the engraver of FE or Chopin in [A]. The need for marks in this place seems to be obvious due to the harmonic change in the middle of the bar. There is a similar situation in bar 63.

In the sources, the octave sign does not encompass the grace note, as a result of which, when interpreted literally, it is a b1 and not a b2. The notation of analogous bar 64 proves a mistake in the placement of the octave sign.
