b. 32

composition: Op. 22, Polonaise

b1 tied in FE (→GE1,EE)

b1 repeated in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The missing tie of b1 is probably a mistake of the engraver of GE2 (→GE3).

Wedge in FE (→EE)

No mark in GE

Wedge & accent suggested by the editors

..

In FE (→EE) the e2-d3 seventh is provided here with a wedge; however, in the respective bar of the reprise (b. 185), which was probably marked in [A] in an abridged manner as repetition of the discussed one, it is provided with an accent. Therefore, it is highly likely that the text was not reproduced here accurately, i.e. one of the marks could have been overlooked, whereas Chopin could have added the other while proofreading. Taking into account the above, in the main text we suggest (in both places) optionally adding the mark present in the analogous place.

Wedge on b1 in FE

No marks in GE

2 wedges in EE

..

The missing wedge next to b1 is most probably an oversight of the engraver in GE. In the main text we add a wedge next to b2, which was already performed in EE (also in b. 187). The absence of this mark must be considered inadvertence, since there is no doubt that all three motifs should be performed alike.

R.H. wedge in FE (→GE1)

2 wedges in EE

No marks in GE1a (→GE2GE3)

..

A comparison with analogous b. 82 points to a highly likely oversight of the L.H. wedge in FE (→GE1). Therefore, we add this mark in the main text; it is also in EE. In turn, in GE1a, due to the graphic retouches performed in this fragment of the page, the R.H. wedge was overlooked, which was repeated in GE2 (→GE3).
