  b. 20

Dotted crotched in FE (→GE)

Crotchet in EE

Crotchet tied to quaver suggested by the editors

In b. 20, 58, 164 and 202 the extension of the f crotchet to the 5th quaver (inclusive) of the bar is inaccurately written in the sources. In FE (→GE) this note is extended only in b. 20 (with a dot) and 164 (with a tie and a note). In EE, there are no extensions at all; moreover, in b. 164 the a note on the 5th quaver of the bar is missing. Unless they are accidental mistakes, they can be seen as traces of corrections performed by Chopin later in FE both in b. 20 and 164. In any case, the composer could not have meant these four places to be performed differently, hence we standardise the notation of this detail after b. 164.
