Issues : Errors in EE

b. 68

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

EE erroneously omitted the staccato dot over the 2nd crotchet in the bar. Since the dot in FE is copied poorly, it could have been assumed that it was to be removed (the dot's "debilitation" is most probably a result of the proofreading of pitch).

Small notes in bars 374-375 in A & GE2

Regular notes in GE1

Small notes separately, in bar 376 d1-f1 in FE1

c1-f1 in bar 376 in FE2

Regular notes in EE

The absence of the c1-f1 fourth in bar 376 is probably Chopin's oversight; he then added it while proofreading FE (FE1 added d1-f1, erroneously, which was corrected to c1-f1 in FE2). At the time of performing this proofreading, the composer also introduced a more transparent, two-voice notation of all three chords, in which only the top note belongs to the solo part. EE repeated the text of FE2, without preserving the differences in the size of the notes, though. In almost all subsequent collective editions, the dyads of the accompaniment were erroneously included in the solo part (on the basis of GE1).

b. 423

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

In FE the 1st beat is written an octave lower and it was supposed to be encompassed with an octave sign, which, however, begins only from the 2nd beat of the bar. In EE1 the octave sign starts only from the next bar, which seems to be a result of a misunderstanding during an attempt to correct the mistake of FE. The subsequent EE already include the correct text, compliant with A (→GE).

No mark in A (→GEFE)

Staccato dot in EE

..

The dot in EE is most probably a mistake of the engraver who considered the staccato mark to be the dot ending the Ped. abbreviation in FE.

b. 462-463

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

e3 in A (literal reading→GEFE1)

e3 in A (contextual interpretation) & FE2

e3 & e3 in EE

..

Just like in bars 422-423, the flats lowering e3 to e3 and the cautionary  before e2 in the L.H. in bar 463 prove that the version of A (→GEFE1), interpreted literally, is erroneous. In EE, a respective  is only in bar 463 (together with a  before e2), which is probably a result of an oversight of the sign in bar 462.
