b. 1

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Slur from 1st note of bar in A & GE2

Slur from quavers in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The later start of the slur could have been introduced by Chopin in the proofreading of GE1 (→FEEE) – cf. other motifs of this theme with identical rhythm, e.g. in bars 3 and 25. However, in the main text we start the slur from the 1st note of the bar, in accordance with A, since the authenticity of the version of GE1 is uncertain.

b. 16-17

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Slur from bar 17 in A

Slur from bar 16 in GE (→FEEE)

..

In A, starting the slur from bar 17 is most probably an inaccuracy, being a result of the transition to a new page. It was corrected in GE (→FEEE); the traces of correction in print are clearly visible. At the same time, one can see that the slur in GE1 originally encompassed bars 17-19, which was changed to a slurring that was not only compliant with A, but also correcting the inaccuracy of the manuscript. In this case, the authenticity of this correction is unquestionable.

b. 40-41

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Slur to b in A (contextual interpretation→GE)

Slur to b1 in A (literal reading) & FE (→EE)

..

Bar 40 is the last one on the page in A, and, in spite of the fact that the slur suggests continuation in the next bar, there is no ending on a new page. In GE1, a slur was initially printed to the end of bar 40 and a new one from the beginning of bar 41 to the end of bar 44. The slurs were then corrected to the version written in A (probably at Chopin's request). FE (→EE) included the corrected version of the beginning of the slur in bar 41, but not of the ending of the slur from bar 40, which could mean that the correction was introduced in the last phase of proofreading of GE1.

b. 83-86

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

Traces of correction in print visible in GE1 (and particularly in GE1a) prove that the slurs were corrected here – initially, each bar was embraced with a separate slur. See also bars 86-87.

b. 96

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

The ending of the slur in GE1 was printed inaccurately – the slur at the end of the line suggests continuation, which is not confirmed by the slur in the next bar. In this case, this very frequent inaccuracy did not provoke mistakes in the remaining editions.

In the initial part of the slur (in bar 93), one can see clear traces of proofreading of the slurs in GE1 – initially, one slur embraced bars 92-93. In GE1a, one can see that the slurs in the further part were originally different – one slur reached the end of bar 95, whereas the other ran above bar 96. Therefore, the inaccurate ending of the corrected slur described above is a result of an inaccurately implemented proofreading.
