Issues : Errors of A

b. 462-463

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

e3 in A (literal reading→GEFE1)

e3 in A (contextual interpretation) & FE2

e3 & e3 in EE

..

Just like in bars 422-423, the flats lowering e3 to e3 and the cautionary  before e2 in the L.H. in bar 463 prove that the version of A (→GEFE1), interpreted literally, is erroneous. In EE, a respective  is only in bar 463 (together with a  before e2), which is probably a result of an oversight of the sign in bar 462.

b. 474-475

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

No slur in A

Single slur in GE1 (→FEEE)

Double slur in GE2

..

The missing slurs in A is a typical oversight of Chopin, related to the transition into a new page. GE1 (→FEEE) added only the bottom slur, which, taking into account the double slurs in the adjacent bars, seems to be a simplified correction (or revision).

b. 475-480

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

No dashes in the sources

Dashes suggested by the editors

..

These bars fill an entire page of A. On the previous page, Chopin wrote cresc. in bar 469 and marked its range with dashes until the end of the page (bar 474). The dashes appear then on the next page, from bar 481, yet there is no mark to which they could refer. It proves Chopin's mistake – either a new mark was supposed to be written in bars 475-480 or the composer forgot to write dashes extending cresc. from bar 469 in these bars. The latter seems to be much more likely, since the discussed bars continue the regular ascending progression, which started together with cresc. in bar 469.

b. 476-477

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

In A, Chopin wrote only two naturals in this place – before the 2nd quaver in bar 476 and before the bottom note of the 1st quaver in bar 477. The missing signs before the 1st octave in the L.H. in bar 476 are the only case in the entire fragment in which the first occurrence of a note in a bar was not marked correctly. It probably indicates that the part of the L.H. was written after the passages in the R.H., hence the first b Chopin encountered while writing was the 2nd quaver, written on the bottom stave. Considering that the  is valid also for the topmost note in the L.H., all necessary naturals were added already in GE (→FEEE).

b. 481-484

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

- - - - in A

cresc. - - in GE

cresc. in FE (→EE)

..

A has only dashes marking the range of an unspecified indication in these bars, most probably cresc. from bar 469 – see bars 475-480. The cresc. marking, appearing in GE (→FEEE) at the beginning of bar 481, was added probably by Chopin as proofreading of incomplete indications of A, hence we give it in the main text.
Omission of dashes must be an inaccuracy of the engraver of FE (→EE).
