Slur in A

Slurs in GE

Slurs in FE (→EE)

Our alternative suggestion

..

According to us, the slur of A ending in bar 396 is inaccurate – see bars 52-53 – hence in the main text we lead it to the beginning of the next bar, in accordance with the slurs of flute I and clarinet in Morch. The authenticity of the slur added in GE (→FEEE) in bars 397-398 is also questionable – its beginning is contrary to the phrasing that naturally follows from the instrumentation. Therefore, we do not include this slur in the main text. However, taking into account a possibility of a Chopinesque proofreading of GE1 in this place, we suggest a slur started a crotchet later as an alternative solution – the Chopinesque entry could have been misinterpreted by the engraver.
The delayed beginning of the first slur is most probably an inaccuracy of FE (→EE).

Cor in A

Cor de Signal in Morch & GE (→FEEE)

..

The indication of A may be considered to be an abbreviation or to be even unfinished – Morch includes Cor de Signal (written by the copyist's hand) in this place. The extended indication in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2) is probably a result of proofreading, possibly Chopinesque – the dot after 'Cor' suggests that the word was initially an entire indication, in accordance with A.

b. 415-417

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

In A, bars 415 (from the 2nd beat), 416 and the 1st quaver in bar 417 are written an octave lower, since they were not encompassed with the octave sign. This patent mistake was corrected – perhaps by Chopin – already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2).

b. 423

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

A does not have a  lowering d3 to dat the beginning of the bar. Chopin's patent oversight was corrected – perhaps by himself – already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2).

2 slurs in EE

..

It is difficult to assume that Chopin actually wanted to end the slur before the 2nd beat in bar 466. The slur is probably unfinished, perhaps to avoid the crossing with the octave sign. The slur of GE (→FE), led further, was most probably corrected, probably by the very Chopin, which confirms our assumptions that the slur of A is inaccurate. In EE, each of these bars is encompassed with a separate slur, which can be explained by an inaccurate interpretation of FE or a revision, e.g. by analogy to bars 425-426.
