The crossings-out and corrections in the part of the L.H. in A make it uncertain whether Chopin wanted to accentuate the minims on the 2nd beat of these bars. In the earlier crossed-out version of the accompaniment, the accents were written in both bars, yet only the mark in bar 453 was not removed. In analogous bars 461-462, there are also crossings-out, but in this case Chopin preserved one accent in its original version (in bar 462), whereas he wrote the second one (in bar 461) only next to the new version of the minim. Therefore, Chopin wanted to accentuate both minims. There is no other explanation for it. It means that the mark in bar 453 is most probably valid, whereas in bar 454 it was overlooked due to inadvertence. In such a situation, in the main text we suggest accents in both discussed bars, considering the version of the editions without accents to be acceptable, yet less likely.
