The Chopin  was reproduced in GE1 (→FEEE) as  and . This kind of misinterpretations of  would often appear in Chopin's pieces, e.g. in the Etude in E minor, Op. 10 No. 6, bar 21.

The change of  to  is a relatively frequent mistake in the first editions; however, it is generally encountered when the base text to an edition was a manuscript.

The  indication, appearing in the editions, seems to be completely accurate after a few-bar-long crescendo and could have been accepted by Chopin. However, it is most probably only a result of a misinterpretation of A by the engraver of GE1. See also bar 249.
