b. 226

Long accents in A

Short accents in GE (→FEEE)

The figurations, based on the same idea, appear six times in total – also in bars 230, 234, 236, 238 and 240. Out of 24 accents written in A in the part of the R.H., 18 are clearly long accents and only 3 are ambiguous and 3 – short. In this situation, in the main text we give long accents in all places. In GE1, FE and EE the signs were reproduced inaccurately – some were overlooked and the majority was given the form of short accents (in bar 240 EE has vertical accents). Except for the dubious last accent in bar 226, nothing indicates possible Chopin's interventions in this respect. GE2 includes all accents, but all of them are short.
