  b. 99-100

In these bars, in the part of the R.H. A has only one  raising d to d – at the beginning of bar 99. The  returning bat the beginning of the septuplet in bar 100 is also missing (Chopin added it in FED). In spite of additions and other changes in the notation, none of the editions achieved the fully correct text:

  • in GE1 (→FE) a cautionary  was added before b2 at the beginning of bar 100 and a  raising d2 to d2 in bar 100, but only in the 2nd half of the bar. A  before c3 in the 4th group in bar 99 was repeated after A. While the sign was justified in A, in which the first three groups are written with an octave sign, in the edition, after having renounced the use of the octave sign, it is not necessary anymore;
  • in EE1 all necessary naturals and two cautionary flats were added at the beginning of bar 100. The unnecessarily repeated  before c3 in the 4th group in bar 99 was removed, yet the erroneously added  before d2 in the 2nd half of bar 100 in GE1 was left;
  • EE2 (→EE3) repeated the text of EE1, returning – most probably under the influence of GE1 – the superfluous  before c3;
  • in GE2 the text of GE1 was completed with all necessary naturals and both superfluous signs were removed. However, the 1st note of the septuplet in bar 100 was left without sign.

In the main text we give all signs necessary for the correct determination of the pitch and two cautionary flats at the beginning of bar 100.
