Issues : Authentic corrections of EE

b. 37-39

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur in bars 37-38 in GC (→GE)

Slur in bar 37 in FE, literal reading

Slur to bar 39 in EE

..

The slur in bar 37 in FE reaches the end of line, suggesting a continuation, however, there is no slur in bar 38. It is certainly a mistake because the slur in [A] looked most probably as the one carefully written in GC. Possibly authentic is also the longer slur in EE – Chopin could have written it while proofreading the basis to this edition.

b. 51

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

FE1 (→FE2) has an e as the bottom note of the 1st minim in the L.H. This patent error was corrected in FE3 (→FE4). The remaining sources also include the correct text.

b. 56

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

FE1 (→FE2) has a b-e1 minim here. The mistake resulted from an erroneous assignment of these notes to the bottom stave, where the bass clef is in force – the mistake's mechanism is easy to understand, looking at the notation of GC (most probably very similar to the notation of [A]). The mistake was corrected in FE3 (→FE4) and EE, mostly likely as a result of Chopin's intervention. GC (→GE) includes the correct text.

b. 59-63

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

in GC (→GE) & FE1 (→FE2)

e in FE3 (→FE4), EE & FESch

..

The note present at the beginning of bars 59 and 63 in GC (→GE) and FE1 (→FE2) is the original version of the bass in these bars. Chopin changed them to e in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4), in the base text to EE and FESch. In the corresponding bar of the recapitulation (bar 187), the fifth as the base of chord is present accordingly in all sources.

b. 101-104

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur in GC & EE

No slur in FE & GE

..

The slur over the pair of chords, written in GC, was overlooked in GE. The absence of the sign in FE means that the slur in EE must have been added by Chopin in the base text to this edition.
