Issues : Errors of GC

b. 126

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

b-b1 in GC (→GE)

b-a1 in FE (→EE)

..

GC (→GE) has a b-boctave as the 4th quaver in the bar. The comparison with the motifs in the adjacent bars (as well as in bars 133-135) almost certainly indicates a mistake of the copyist.

b. 127

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

GC and FE1 (→FE2EE) lack in the accidental before the 3rd crotchet in the L.H. Patent in this context Chopin's mistake was corrected in GE and FE3 (→FE4). Moreover, FE1 overlooked the  before the 4th note.

b. 155

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

e2 in GC (→GE)

c2 in FE (→EE), contextual interpretation

..

The structure of the figuration in the entire passage in the L.H. (bars 153-156 and 157-160), and particularly the comparison with analogous bar 159, indicate a mistake of the copyist in this place. The absence of a correction in GE may be attributed to the absent  before this note (although in a similar situation four bars later, a  before the respective note – c2 – was added). The sign is absent also in the majority of the sources featuring the note at the correct pitch – it was added only in EE2

b. 156

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

At the beginning of the 2nd half of the bar before the bottom note of the second, GC and FE1 (→FE2) have one  before each of the notes instead of . This easy to detect mistake – none of these flats is necessary at this pitch, whereas a1 appears in the part of the L.H. – was corrected in GE, by adding another  before the bottom note. The correct notation is included in FE3 (→FE4) and EE, which in both cases could have been a result of Chopin's intervention.
A double flat before the top note of the penultimate chord was added only in GE and EE2.

b. 157-158

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur from bar 158 in GC (→GE1)

2 slurs in FE (→EE)

3 slurs in GE2

..

The missing slurs in GC (→GE1) must be an oversight – the copyist wrote only the part of the slur starting in b. 158, at the beginning of a new line, overlooking the slurring of b. 157. GE2 limited itself to adding slurs in b. 157 (most probably by analogy with b. 153) – the already printed slur in b. 158 was left unchanged.
