Issues : Errors in GE

The divided slurs in GE are probably an incorrect interpretation of the slurs of GC between the lines – although the beginning of the slur in b. 79 is harder to see in the copy, there is no doubt that the slur was meant to be continued. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Inaccuracies in GC |

The interpretation of the top slur in GC is not straightforward. In this rhythmical context, its leading to the final semiquaver seems natural. However, this would produce a concurrence of slurs on that semiquaver, which the notation of GC does not suggest, and what does not occur in any other source. It is therefore possible that the slur has a double meaning – similarly to the sign – it indicates the tenuto of the dotted minim e2 as well as pertains to the suspension in the accompanying voices. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Inaccuracies in GC , Tenuto slurs |

Each of the three source versions of the range of the sign may correspond to Chopin's intention. According to us, the sign has a nature of a long accent, emphasising both the dynamic relation of the delay of d2 and its resolution c2. Therefore, in the main text we give a sign on the basis of FE, which presents this double sense in the clearest manner. The absence of a hairpin in GE is certainly a result of an oversight (cf. the note on the tie). category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Scope of dynamic hairpins , Errors in GE |

The phrasing slur over both d2, visible in GC, was misinterpreted in GE as a tie. This non-authentic version was then repeated in EE2. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |

It is hard to state whether the absence of staccato dots in GE is a result of an oversight or of a revision. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |
