Issues : Alterations in GC

b. 1

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

 in GC (→GE)

No marking in FE (→EE)

..

It is hard to state which of the performance indications at the beginning of the Scherzo –  in GC (→GE) or the accent in FE (→EE) – is later. Since both signs do not appear simultaneously in any of the sources, we do not try to combine them, while in the main text we adopt the version of the base source, i.e. FE (without , only the accent).

Before the 1st crotchet of the piece, in GC one can see a deleted indication, probably risoluto.

b. 34

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

As the top most note of the 1st chord, FE1 includes an erroneous instead of b, which was corrected already in FE2. The mistake must have been in [A], as in GC an identical correction is to be seen.

b. 39

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

The bottom note of the 2nd quaver in FE1 is an erroneous e1, which was corrected already in FE2. The mistake, and in any case the inaccurately written note, must have been in [A], as in GC one can see an identical correction.

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

g in chords in GC (→GE), FE3 (→FE4), FESch & EE2

a in FE1 (→FE2EE1)

..

The version of FE1 (→FE2EE1) is probably the original version, as it was initially written also in GC, in which it was corrected, probably by Chopin. Interestingly, in GC also the middle crotchets in the R.H. (from f1 to e1) were corrected, which in FE, however, are printed right away in the final version. Therefore, it cannot be excluded that seeing identical chords in the L.H., the copyist considered the crotchets in the R.H. also to be identical. It is even more likely considering the fact that in the manuscrpts only the first of the three bars was written out with notes. The version with g was written also in FESch.
